Just relax and enjoy” at Flygarns Haga. The best place in the middle of Gothenburg!

A little bit of history…

Flygarns Haga was a slum that emerged in the 19th century in the area now known as Vasaplatsen and Vasaparken in Gothenburg. The area was originally called Hagaheden and consisted of small tenants who rented land in smaller parcels to less fortunate individuals who built small homes on the plots.

The main street through Flygarns Haga was called Kallens Gata, named after one of the men who rented the Mariefred estate. Flygarns Haga offered a blend of idyll and slum, with charming meadows and well-maintained houses in the lower part, while the upper part consisted of rather dilapidated shacks.

Flygarns Haga got its name from Police Commissioner A. F. Flygare, who owned houses in the area and ran a profitable business. The area was known for its rough lifestyle, with fraud, brawls, and knife fights being part of daily life.

Eventually, Flygarns Haga and the nearby slum, Skojarbacken, were demolished, and the area was transformed into Vasaparken and Vasaplatsen.
